Being young and in love.

dress: thrifted and altered, tights: target, shoes: some random store in the Idaho Falls mall.

I was in Washington this weekend doing some wedding things. My mom is almost done making my dress! It's beautiful and I love it. I'm so excited. She is such a talented woman. I'm so excited to show you guys the completed piece! I get married in a month! I couldn't be more thrilled. I've had a couple comments on here and even with some friends and associates referring to how young I am and personal opinions. I may only be 20, I may not be done with college yet, or even have a real license yet, but one thing I do know is that I am doing the right thing. In LDS culture, we are taught that families are so important. We are taught to wait to have sexual relations until we are married. We are taught to start our families at a young age and help develop and grow through our Savior, Jesus Christ. That is exactly what I am doing. I have found the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. The person I want to have children with. Grow old with. And yes, I am extremely young. If I could control time, I would be older. But I can't. I'm on God's time and if this is what I am suppose to do, then I will. I don't think anyone is ever really ready for marriage. But, I'm ready to take this step in my life and move forward with Rob. I just needed to get that off my chest.

  2. We share our birthday month, so I know that you are exactly the same age I was when I got married. Are you getting married in April? Because then it is exact. This being told you're too young is a long time coming. People will tell you (non members) that you look way too young to be married all. the. time. Especially if you move away from Utah/Idaho. I have just learned to smile and nod. :) I'm excited for you.

  3. I definitely think that its not about age... its about maturity.
    If you know, you know.

    A month...so soon!

  4. there is absolutely nothing wrong with committing to the person you love and wanting to spend the rest of your life with them! and you are definitely old enough to make your own decisions, so pay no attention to the judgey mcjudgersons!

  5. I actually think that's a really mature explanation. No one is ever ready. You might be young, but you aren't dumb. Seems like you have your head on straight!

  8. I have friends that chose to get married around the same age you are and they're now getting ready to go celebrate four years of marriage - they are still just in as much love as they were when they started and that is including two kids later. No one can determine when the "right" time for marriage is, it has to be when is the right time for YOU. :)

  9. Uhmm that dress looks amazing on you!! And I love that you matched it with polka dottie tights & pink heels. You're such a thrifting goddess! I'm sercretly obsessed with you.

    Can't wait for your wedding- I'm so excited for pics! (;

& I agree with everything you say about marriage- is anyone ever ready? haha if the right person comes along,GO FOR IT! :D if you, your family, and God think you're ready, then you are! It's totally personal, don't let what others say make you doubt your preparedness for this most important decision in your life (:

Some may just be jealous. I know I am haha I want to get married! HAHA. I've gotta learn to be patient...

  10. Wow, I love this dress but more importantly what you wrote. I don't think anyone should be imposing their opinions about your wedding on you, especially as it has nothing to do with them. I've only been following for about a month but even in that short time, I have seen that you are a mature young lady and you're clearly doing the right thing with Robert. I wish you guys all the best in your marriage xo- Berni

  12. Good job for sticking up for what you know is right! You know better than any of us readers. I got married really young too, but I wouldn't change for anything. It was the best decision for my now husband and I.

  15. You are so right on this. And there is nothing wrong with getting married to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with even if you're young. It's sad that a lot of people now a days criticize so much about it. So happy for you! And can't wait to see your dress!

  16. I'm so sorry people have been giving you a hard time about your age, I got married when I was 20 and I had a really hard time with all the negative comments. But like you said I knew it was exactly what I was suppose to be doing and wouldn't go back and change anything. On another note so jealous of your sewing skills, wish I could transform things.

  18. Nice! I've been buying dresses that I can alter as a stepping stone to learning how to actually construct a dress from scratch. Love seeing these restyles for ideas!!

Congrats on hitting the one month mark! Eeh!

  19. The dress is amazing! I'm in love with it. :) And yes, you are young, but aren't the years when you are young the best time to devout to someone you love? Some people just aren't lucky enough to find someone early on. I've been reading the blog for a while and am so excited to see you make this next step in your life!

  20. I totally understand where you're coming from--though usually people think I'm about 14 until I say I'm married. Then I have to tell them I'm 20 and not 14, but still people think it's pretty young. However, we've made the decision to love each other and to always love each other, and our marriage is in His hands.

I cannot WAIT to see pics of your wedding and beautiful dress! :)

P.S. I love your hair in these pics!

  21. The younger you are, the more time you have on this earth with the one you want to spend eternity with. Sure, you've got eternity, but why wait? Blessings will always abound! When we are doing whats right. Take it from a fellow 20 year old searching for her eternity :)

I'm so i love with how great you are at thrifting and making ugly things beautiful!

  23. I just got married last April (great month ;)and I couldn't be happier. My brother and husband's sister got married within two months of us and we range in ages from 20-27 and I think that everyone is different. Just be happy for your lives together and don't worry about other people, for the most part they're either jealous or not as mature.

  24. Who are these people to talk about your decisions in life? You don't need to explain why are you getting married at 20... Who said what's the right age to get married? I wish there is more people taking risks in life and be happy about them!... We would be a more sane society if we put love and God first...
Congrats on your wedding! Looking forward to see that dress, lady! :)
